Γιώργος Γριτζάς

Giorgos Gritzas is Professor at the School of Spatial Planning and Development (SDP) of the AUTH specialising in "Geographical Analysis and Social and Solidarity Economy for Spatial Development". He is also the Director of the Postgraduate Program "Social and Solidarity Economy" (KAO) at the Hellenic Open University (HOU). In both AUTH and HOU, he teaches Geography, Spatial Development Planning, Commons, Alternative Spaces, Participatory Planning, Social Solidarity Economy and Social Innovation. He is the main supervisor of five PhD theses in progress on the commons and SSE (circular economy, energy communities, networks of initiatives, development of mountainous areas), while he was the main supervisor of two completed theses (agro-food networks, commons and spatial planning). He is a member of the international academic network Community Economies Research Network (CERN), of the Co‑Space Laboratory for the Study of Collective Practices for Space and Development at the Department of Spatial Planning and Development, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and, finally, a member of the Scientific Society for the Commons and the Social Solidarity Economy under establishment. He has served — and continues to serve — as scientific coordinator in European and Greek research projects. He has participated in the organisation and scientific committees of numerous Greek and international conferences. He is the author of books and articles published in Greek and international academic journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings.
