WORKSHOP 1
Empowering youth for independent living: addressing working conditions and labour insecurity
In today's Europe there is a large increase in job insecurity and a large mismatch between unemployed young people and jobs. This workshop will provide the necessary space for young people from all over the continent to identify and discuss the common obstacles and difficulties they face in this regard, to share their own experiences and to propose solutions - in the form of drafting policy proposals or action plans - that would improve the labour market and, thus, their professional life. Furthermore, the workshop aims to table inspiring ideas and concrete steps that young active citizens could follow to help develop personal skills that will enhance their know-how, experience and sense of independence and security.
Facilitators: Yannis Charchantis, Sophia Dagli
WORKSHOP 2
Housing for all: building bridges to accessible & affordable housing in Europe
Every person deserves the opportunity to build an independent life, yet the high cost of housing and limited housing rights often stand in their way. This participatory workshop aims to address one of the most pressing challenges in Europe: the lack of accessible and affordable housing that hinders people from attaining independent living. The workshop will explore the real-life experiences of young Europeans by employing a variety of interactive methods aiming to foster constructive dialogue on the issue, including group discussions and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, and presentation of comparative case studies and good practices. By creating an inclusive and interactive space, participants will be encouraged to share their personal experiences, generate innovative ideas, and collaborate with others to develop practical solutions for accessible and affordable housing.
Facilitators: Dr Giorgos Chatzinakos, Dr Maria Karagianni
WORKSHOP 3
Drops in the ocean: Independent, happy and working together
The workshop will involve a collective exploration of the challenges to independent living from a mental and emotional health perspective, weaving together the personal, the political and the practical.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how issues related to independence, self-sufficiency, collective action, ecological health, technological development, access to fundamental social rights and services, precarity, job security and labour rights, race, gender, sexuality and class are interrelated and also connected with mental health and emotional wellbeing, both for individuals and society as a whole. Sharing realities from different countries will enable participants to look at the issues from a multi-dimensional European perspective. With this in mind, participants will focus on practical and tangible national, international and local measures and policies that could improve the future of European youth and enable independent living for all, as well as communal well-being. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a set of theoretical and concrete tools for advocating and effecting change in their respective countries and environments.
Facilitators: Chris Sakellaridis, Argyris Ginoudis
WORKSHOP 4
Amplifying the voices of youth in democracy
The current economic and social context in Europe today is creating very diverse challenges for young people. They are often the first to be affected by unemployment and discrimination. With increasing fragmentation and economic inequalities of our societies there is a real risk of democratic disillusionment and social exclusion of young people. The Youth for Democracy workshop seeks to achieve to (re)motivate active participation and autonomy of young people in peaceful and inclusive societies of Europe by informing them how and to which decision-making bodies they can participate. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a European map of democracy collectives in which they can be involved and an action plan of how they can stay connected after the congress.
