Education for democracy

Educational visit, Empowering representatives from the educational community, migrants’ institutions and organizations from the civil society in dealing with racism and discriminations, Berlin, 25-29 Μarch 2015

The participants visited initiatives, foundations, organizations and insitutions, which encounter racist incidents, discriminations and violence and are active against the extreme-right and anti-semitism. The circumstances, which contribute to the on time encountering of racist phenomena, for the development of a democratic school environment are created through development processes at schools, practices for the democratic education of youth in schools and targeted reeducation for every group in the educational community, such as consulting for teachers, in schools and nursery-schools, parents, free supportive teaching, billingual lessons for the study of the language and educational material. Also, protection and support of the victims is offered, through participatory programs in the extracurricular environment and networking between the municipalities in sensitizing the society on the inclusion of the migrants.

The participants visited the network of Schools “Schule ohne Rassismus-Schule mit Courage”, the primary school Lenau, the RAA Center for Education, Inclusion and Democracy, the Antonio Amadeu Foundation, the Kreuzberg Initiative for the Political Education against Anti-Semitism, Κiga and the headquarters of the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation.
