Parasto Hakim is the founder of SRAK Underground Schools and an online university in Afghanistan. She started the schools in September 2021 and more than 1000 girls and 400 women in 11 provinces of Afghanistan now attend these schools because they are no longer allowed to attend public schools. Meanwhile they have created skills building programmes - sewing clothes, sketching, weaving rugs, and creating accessories – to ensure these women’s independence if they were asked to stay at home and in case of more restrictions Parasto and her team are now working on establishing more than 1500 schools across Afghanistan. They also want to create opportunities for girls to use technology as a tool to learn online. Parasto believes that peace is only possible with education, and that an educated nation will never stay silent despite being ruled by leaders like the Talibans.
