Maria Chatzigeorgiou has been working as a journalist on Lesvos since 1996, focusing on issues of local society, local government, democracy, education, and the natural environment. Over the course of her career, she has worked for the local TV stations Mytilene Television and Archipelagos, as well as for Radio Mytilene and the historic newspaper Dimokratis.

Since 2020, she has been part of the dynamic journalistic team of the Social Cooperative Enterprise “Enimerosi,” which manages the cooperative media stonisi.gr, NISI 99 fm, and the quarterly magazine PLATEIA.
