
Dimitra Koumparou is a Social Anthropologist, PhD in Environmental Policy and Management (University of the Aegean) with her research work focusing particularly on the theory and practice of commons. Her PhD thesis and subsequent research have contributed significantly to the understanding of the systems of collective management of natural resources, sustainability and local development through the lens of the commons.
Her academic activity includes significant teaching work in university programmes in which she introduces students to the concepts of the commons. She has been involved as a researcher in numerous projects related to water resource management, energy transition and environmental policy. She has published scientific articles and presented papers at international conferences, focusing on issues such as commons, natural resources, circular economy and social sustainability.
She has many years of experience in managing European programmes and developing strategies for environmental protection in the field of environmental governance.
