Alexandros P. Dimitrakopoulos is Professor at the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Environment of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He did his postgraduate studies in the USA and received his PhD in ‘Conservation and Management of Natural Resources’ from the University of California, Berkeley. He did postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute at the University of Freiburg Germany on ‘Climate Change and Forest Fires’. 

His research and teaching work focuses on the protection and management of terrestrial natural ecosystems from abiotic and biotic factors, especially forest fires and climate change. 

His work has more than 3,000 references (h-index 23). In the past years (including 2023) and over time, he is included in the 2% of the world's most influential scientists, according to the well-known list of Stanford University, USA (Ioannidis metrics).
