Together with the Goethe Institute Thessaloniki, we presented the award-winning documentary "Citizen of Moria" on Monday, 05th of July 2021, followed by an online Q&A with the film producer Jawad Mir and the co-producer and protagonist Sayed Ahmadzia Ebrahimi. The screening took place in the garden of the Goethe-Institut.
About the film:
When Ahmad's life is threatened by the Taliban in Afghanistan, he leaves his family behind to survive without saying goodbye and ends up in Europe's most notorious refugee camp, Moria. "Citizen of Moria" shows his journey as a filmmaker in the refugee camp hoping to find asylum in Europe or Canada.
Jawad Mir
"Story comes first. It is the heart and soul of every film." Jawad Mir has directed and produced several feature films around the world, including In Search of My Sister, which tells the story of an American Uighur activist whose sister is kidnapped by the Chinese Communist Party. Mir has directed more than a dozen films, including: "Baristas", "Escape from Manus Island", "Flippin' Red" and "Only 78". His films have been acquired by the Orchard and Samuel Goldwyn production companies.
Sayed Ahmadzia Ebrahimi
Ahmed is a filmmaker from Afghanistan. He has worked as a TV producer and made short films and documentaries. He has had filmmaking workshops for youth in different cities in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. In 2016, he left Afghanistan to find a better life in Europe.
