Study launch “Energy Poverty in Greece: social innovation proposals to address the phenomenon”

26 May 2017, Europe Direct City of Athens (Akadimias 50, entrance from Solonos str.), 11:00 – 16:00 p.m.

Energy poverty is becoming a serious concern in our societies with increasing attention. The presentation of the study "Energy Poverty in Greece: social innovation proposals to address the phenomenon" seeks to contribute to the public debate on the issue in Greece and to the formulation of an innovative social policy combining energy, environmental and social criteria.

In the first part of the event the phenomenon of energy poverty will be presented and emphasis will be placed on the proposals included in the study to address it. The proposals are being developed on four main axes: policy changes, information and education, increasing the energy efficiency of buildings, exploitation of renewable energy sources. Short input and discussion will follow to help shape a holistic strategy to address the phenomenon by reviewing the proposed measures and attempting to answer questions such as:

  • In your view what is the degree of applicability of the measure?
  • What are the necessary future steps in order to successfully implement it, in your opinion?
  • What potential role do you see for the actor you represent?
  • What possible areas of cooperation you identify and with whom?

The launch of the study Energy Poverty in Greece: social innovation proposals to address the phenomenon”, is being organized by the social cooperative “Wind of Renewal”, INZEB – Institute of Zero Energy Buildings and the Heinrich Böll Foundation Greece, who worked together on the drafting of the study, in collaboration with the Urban Sustainability office of the City of Athens with the support of the Europe Direct of the City of Athens.

The program of the event is available here (in Greek).
